We are thrilled to announce that our festival production 'The Extraordinary Revelations of Orca the Goldfish' by David Tristram, came a very close runner up with just one point dividing us and the winning team from Woking.

Out of eleven entries, we thought it was a great result. Not only did we get the NDFA Council Trophy for runner up but also the John Scowen Award for Comedy and the Audience Appreciation award when all audience members who bought season tickets get to vote on their favourite production of the week. Thanks to all members and friends who supported us during this festival period.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of last year's autumn production, 'The Odd Couple - Female Version' by Neil Simon. We were nominated in the category of Best Drama in the NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) award ceremony.

We didn't win, but we were thrilled to be considered. Onward and upward!

Calendar Girls (Firth)

Do you really know the story of 'Calendar Girls'? Why does a group of ordinary women undertake such an extraordinary venture?

When Annie's husband John dies of leukaemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They persuade fellow WI members to join them in posing nude for an 'alternative' WI calendar. The play explores the effects of the calendar's success on the women’s relationships with each other, their husbands, those in authority and others trying to take advantage of what becomes an international phenomenon. The humour and sadness demonstrates the support that these women show to their friend in time of need.

Based on the true story of eleven WI members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukemia Research Fund, 'Calendar Girls' has been the fastest selling play in British theatre history; make sure you get your ticket now!

Clavering Players, with the help of Simon Ogle Photography and Urban Picnic, have produced their own calendar and raised £900 for Cancer Research.

Director’s Note:

Although I have been involved in drama for some 30-odd years, this is the first time I have directed for Clavering Players, although I have been a member of this company for a few years.

My first experience of 'Calendar Girls' was when I appeared in for NOMADS in September 2012 and it was great fun. I do hope you enjoy it too. It has taken quite a bit of work (not least the photo shoot for our own calendar!), but we were all giggling that night, which might have been down to the wine! It is a very challenging play to direct and I hope you think I have done it justice.
